Wombwell Funeral Services have been serving the Wombwell and surrounding Barnsley communities by arranging the funerals of their loved ones since 2014. We are able to provide a sensitive and personal family service.

Here at Wombwell Funeral Services we also offer an affordable prepaid funeral plan, Choice, so that you can arrange and pay for a funeral in advance. This will protect your family from rising costs and remove uncertainty about your wishes.

Area Development Manager
John has worked in the Funeral Profession for over 30 years as both Funeral Director and Manager, carrying out various senior roles. He was the past president of the Yorkshire National Association of Funeral Directors. John joined Funeral Partners in January 2021 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. He says, “I am enjoying the new role, challenges and working with a new team.”
Operations Manager
Melanie’s career has been varied and started with her owning her own Bridal Boutique before marrying her soldier husband and leaving for a life in the army. During that time, she ran a local radio station, worked for one of the largest UK retailers and worked for the elite Parachute Regiment as Subscriptions Manager and Deputy Editor of the Pegasus Journal.
Melanie joined Hammerton’s in March 2015, and immediately fell in love with the job. Melanie says, “I feel really privileged to work with such a tremendous team, all of whom really care for our families and give their all to make sure we provide the best service possible.”
Funeral Director
Craig joined the Hammerton team in 2014, as part of the newly built Wombwell Funeral Service team but after Ian Hammerton’s untimely death, he was promoted to Funeral Director at Hammerton’s. He very quickly established himself and families regard him in high esteem. Craig enjoys the simple things in life, such as taking his dog for a walk with his two daughters.
Funeral Service Operative
Steve worked at Hammerton’s Funeral Service for over 16 years before transferring across to Wombwell Funeral Service. He’s devoted to his wife and two sons and enjoys creating culinary delights for them. Steve is a real people person and a great listener, which makes him a firm favourite with all who attend our Bereavement Café.
Funeral Arranger
Kath has worked at Wombwell Funeral Services since April 2022 and has over 20 years’ experience within the Funeral Industry. She is fully proficient in Funeral Arranging, prepaid plans and masonry. Kath says, ‘I love working with families and helping them in their time of need’
Outside of work she has 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and enjoys socialising with her partner and friends.
Funeral Director
Dawn has been a valued member of the team at Wombwell Funeral Services since 2019, having previously worked at Hammertons. With her experience, caring approach and commitment to helping others, Dawn understands how important it is to support families with compassion, professionalism and understanding during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
As a Funeral Director, Dawn plays an important role in guiding families through the funeral arrangements, taking time to understand their wishes and helping them create a meaningful and personal farewell for their loved one. From overseeing the arrangements and coordinating the funeral service to ensuring every detail is carefully considered, Dawn is dedicated to making sure families feel supported, listened to and reassured throughout the process. She takes great pride in treating every person in her care with dignity, respect and kindness.
Dawn has recently achieved another important milestone in her career, successfully completing her Funeral Director Level Apprenticeship. This achievement reflects her commitment to developing her knowledge and skills, maintaining high professional standards and continuing to provide the best possible care to the families she serves.
Outside of work, Dawn loves spending quality time with her little grandson, Rémy, and enjoys travelling. Her favourite destination so far is Iceland, which holds a special place in her travel memories.
Funeral Service Operative
Before Chris came to work for Wombwell Funeral Services, worked caring for others in the NHS, working as an ambulance care assistant.
Chris and his wife have also dedicated the last 14 years to foster care.
His interests are badminton, keeping fit, diy and spending time with family.
